Varanasi also known as Benares, Varanasi spared from Varuna Ghat to Assi Ghat, hence the name Varanasi, Banaras is a city in North Indian on the banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh state of India, 121 km (75 mi) east of Allahabad and 320 km (200 mi) south-east of the state capital, Lucknow. Banaras is the spiritual capital of India, Varanasi is the holiest city of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and it played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Varanasi lies along National Highway 2, which connects it to Delhi, Kolkata, Kanpur, and Agra, and is served by Varanasi Junction and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.
